Passing the FxPro identity check first time

The identity check is the step most UAE applicants repeat, and almost every repeat is avoidable before the first upload.

Which documents pass first time

A clear, full-frame photograph of your Emirates ID and a UAE address proof in your own name are the two files that clear first time. The Emirates ID needs both sides visible, with no glare, no cropped corners and no finger over the text.

Address proof means a document that shows your name and your UAE address together, such as a utility bill or a bank statement. The name must match the account application exactly, including middle names and the spelling used on your ID.

FxPro asks for KYC via Emirates ID and UAE address proof, and the record describes the review as typically within two business days. That is an expectation, not a guarantee, so do not plan a first trade around a fixed clock.

What sends a document back

The usual rejections are a name mismatch, an address proof older than the broker accepts, a scan that cuts off the document edges, or a screenshot instead of a photograph of the original. Each of these forces a resubmission and restarts the review.

A second common failure is a document that proves residency but not address, or the reverse. Check that the file carries your name, your UAE address and a visible issue or statement reference before you upload it.

If you hold an Emirates ID that is close to expiry, renew it before applying. An expired or soon-to-expire ID is a predictable reason for a query, and the fix costs you a full cycle.

Why finish verification before the first deposit

Completing verification before you deposit keeps your money out of a holding pattern, because an unverified account cannot be traded and a deposit into it sits idle. The order is verify first, then fund, then trade.

Verifying early also settles your leverage before you size anything. The financial profile you submit alongside your documents is what the leverage offer is based on, so the margin calculator will give you a meaningful answer only once that is fixed.

Keep the same name and address across the application, the ID and the proof of address. When those three agree, the review has nothing to query, and you reach the funding page without a second attempt.

The Legal Basis for Identity Checks on UAE Trading Accounts

Identity verification exists because FxPro Global Markets MENA Ltd must comply with UAE anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing rules before it can open a trading account or move client money. The firm is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA, and those licences carry the same know-your-customer obligation, so the check is a condition of doing business rather than a service the broker chooses to offer. Until the file is complete, the account stays restricted.

The requirement is not a single statute but a stack of duties: identifying the customer, verifying that identity against an independent document, understanding the purpose of the account, and keeping records that a regulator can inspect later. Because the entity serving you is FxPro Global Markets MENA Ltd, the UAE-facing obligations apply on top of the group's home-regulator standards. That is why the same passport may be requested more than once if an earlier copy is out of date or unclear.

Verification also protects you directly, because a trading account that holds gold (XAU/USD) positions can be funded and withdrawn to a bank account in AED or another currency. If the broker cannot tie that account to a verified natural person, it cannot safely release funds or accept a local UAE bank transfer back to you. The check is therefore the mechanism that makes withdrawal possible, not an obstacle placed in front of it.

Document Errors That Trigger a Rejection Even When the File Looks Complete

Most rejections come from image quality and framing rather than from the content of the document. A photograph taken at an angle, a corner cut off, a flash reflecting across the photo page, or a scan at low resolution will fail even when the passport is genuine and current. The reviewer needs to read the document number, the expiry date and the full machine-readable zone, so any crop that removes one of those lines sends the file back.

Mismatches between what you typed and what the document shows are the second common cause. A middle name omitted at sign-up, a maiden name still on the card, a date of birth entered in the wrong order, or an address that differs by a flat number from the utility bill will all stall approval. The system compares fields automatically, and a single character difference can open a manual query that takes longer than simply correcting the profile first.

Expired or near-expiry documents are refused as a matter of course, and so are documents that have been edited, laminated over a signature, or photographed as a screenshot of a screenshot. For proof of address, a mobile phone bill in someone else's name or a statement addressed to a company will not pass. Submit the original document, in full colour, with all four edges visible and no digital annotation anywhere on the page.

What Happens to Money Sent Before the Account Is Approved

A deposit made before approval is normally received and held, not traded with. The funds sit in the client money account while the verification file is incomplete, and the balance will usually appear in the account once the profile is opened, but the ability to place a gold (XAU/USD) order stays blocked until the check clears. Nothing is lost, but nothing is usable either, which is why the sequence matters more than the speed of the transfer.

The practical risk is timing and reversal. If the deposit arrives from a card or a local UAE bank transfer in a name that does not match the account holder, the payment may be returned to source while the mismatch is investigated, and the return can take longer than the original transfer. A deposit sent in AED from a joint account or a third party's card is the classic case that triggers this, because the broker cannot confirm whose money it is.

Deposits made before approval can also complicate the first withdrawal, since most brokers return funds to the same method and the same name that funded the account. If the funding source was never verified, the withdrawal path is unclear and the money may be held pending further documents. Fund only after the file is approved, and fund from an account in your own name, to keep the route back clean.

The Suitability Questionnaire and What Your Answers Actually Change

The suitability questionnaire decides which products and leverage settings the broker can offer you, and it is not a formality. Answers on trading experience, employment, income, existing investments and the proportion of savings you intend to commit feed a scoring model that classifies you as retail or otherwise. A profile with no prior trading history will typically be offered a more restricted set of instruments or a lower default leverage than an experienced one, and the platform will reflect that.

The answers do not change the maximum leverage available in the UAE, which is up to 1:500 on standard forex accounts, within DFSA/SCA-compliant limits and varying by instrument. That figure is a cap, not a setting you should aim at, and the questionnaire can only reduce what you are offered from that ceiling. At that cap, a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin, and the same position at a lower setting needs proportionally more, which is the practical consequence of a conservative profile.

Inaccurate answers are the real problem, because they can invalidate the appropriateness assessment the broker relied on. If you later claim experience you do not have, or understate the share of savings at risk, the record no longer matches reality and a complaint or a re-assessment becomes harder to resolve. Answer honestly and update the profile when circumstances change, particularly after a change of employment or a large shift in the funds you intend to trade.

Proof of Address Accepted for UAE Residents and How Current It Must Be

For a UAE resident, the usual accepted proof of address is a utility bill, a bank or card statement, or a government-issued document such as a tenancy contract or residence visa page that shows the residential address. The document must be recent, typically issued within the last three months, and it must show your full name and the address exactly as you entered it in the account profile. Mobile phone bills and invoices addressed to a company are generally not accepted.

The address itself has to be a residential one, not a PO box and not a free-zone office you do not live at. If you live in shared accommodation and the utility bill is in the landlord's or a family member's name, ask the broker what alternative it accepts before you submit, because a document in a third party's name will be refused. A bank statement in your own name sent to your home address is often the simplest route for residents whose utility accounts are not in their name.

Recency is checked against the issue date printed on the document, not the date you downloaded it, so a statement generated today for an old period may still be too old. Keep the file in colour and complete, with the header, your name, the address and the statement period all readable. If your address has changed since the document was issued, update the profile first and then submit a document that matches the new address, rather than sending two conflicting versions.

When the Name on the Document and the Name on the Card Do Not Match

A mismatch between the account name and the payment card name stops the deposit from being credited cleanly, because the broker must be able to show that the funds came from the account holder. The payment is usually held or returned to source while the discrepancy is reviewed, and the account may be asked for a card ownership document such as a statement or a partial card image showing the embossed name. The same rule applies to a local UAE bank transfer sent from a joint or third-party account.

Common legitimate causes are a maiden name on the card, a shortened first name, a transliteration difference between Arabic and Latin script, or a card issued to a spouse on a supplementary basis. Each of these can be resolved, but only by documenting the link rather than by explaining it in a message. A marriage certificate, a bank letter confirming the account holder, or a statement showing both names will usually settle the question, and the broker will then align the records.

The cleanest approach is to fund from a card or bank account held in exactly the name verified on the trading account. If that is not possible, contact the broker before sending money and ask which supporting document it wants, so the transfer is not reversed. Do not use a friend's or relative's card to speed up a first deposit, because the return of those funds to a third party is exactly what the anti-money-laundering rules are designed to prevent.

FAQ

Common questions

Which documents does the identity check normally ask for?

The check normally asks for a government photo ID and a proof of address showing your name and UAE address. The exact list is set by FxPro Global Markets MENA Ltd, not by us. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA, and those rules drive what is collected. Submit only what is requested, in the format requested.

Why does a document get sent back even when it looks fine to me?

Documents are usually rejected for four reasons: the photo is cropped at an edge, the text is blurred, the document is expired, or the name does not match the application exactly. A utility bill older than the accepted period is also common. Re-shoot in daylight, keep all four corners visible, and check the name spelling against your form.

Can I trade gold while verification is still pending?

Typically you can explore the platform and use demo, but deposits and live trading are usually held until the check clears. Treat that wait as useful time: open XAU/USD, note that one pip is 0.01 and one lot is 100 oz, and rehearse a 0.10-lot order on demo using our position size calculator.

Does my proof of address have to be a UAE document?

It should match the residential address you entered on the form, which for a UAE resident is normally a UAE document. A bank statement or utility bill in your name is the usual format. If your address recently changed, update the form first; a document that contradicts the application is a common reason for a second review.

How long does verification take and can I speed it up?

Timing depends on the volume of applications and whether your documents are clear on the first submission, so no fixed period applies. You speed it up by submitting sharp, uncropped, in-date documents whose names match the form exactly. If something is sent back, correct that one item rather than uploading a different document.
